Never judge a book by its movie
How I wish I didn't watch The Importance of Being Earnest, especially after reading the play!
Movies leave far more indelible impressions on my mind than do books, and the sheer delight over a modest, witty family comedy I experienced after reading the play has been lost to the wry and teasing performance of Rupert Everett and the decadence of cabaret sets.
At least now I know: the above quote by J.W. Eagan can be taken in its converse, and if I enjoyed a book, I should be wary of its film adaptation!
